VIII Kongress - Congress - Congrés - Congreso ACLES

El Servei de Llengües Modernes de  la Universitat de Girona es complau a convidar-vos al VIII Congrés de l'Associació de Centres de Llengües de l'Ensenyament Superior, que tindrà lloc els dies 3, 4 i 5 de juliol a Girona. El tema del Congrés és "Nous reptes per als centres de llengües: estàndards de qualitat".

L'objectiu del Congrés és compartir experiències i bones pràctiques de tots els àmbits de treball dels centres, des de l'ensenyament de llengües fins a la gestió dels centres, passant per les correccions i traduccions i la terminologia.

Per tractar tots aquests temes, el Congrés preveu la presentació de comunicacions i la impartició de tres tallers, sobre l'avaluació de llengües, la qualitat en la gestió dels centres, bones pràctiques en correcció i traducció i les competències del professorat de llengües.

El Congrés es farà a la Facultat de Lletres de la Universitat de Girona.

Les llengües oficials del Congrés són el català, l'espanyol i l'anglès.

Us convidem a participar activament en aquest Congrés, per contribuir a millorar la qualitat dels centres de llengües.

What’s the purpose of the website?

Speakers and tweeters of minority languages can meet  and speak with each other.

Kevin Scannel developed an application. What does this application do? 

It finds twitter activity in minority and endangered languages

What’s an API?

The Twitter API is kind of a tool kit that allows people to build apps and tools around Twitter.

What does the app do with tweets in minority languages?

The API allows Kevin Scannel to get at the data. He grabs tweets people send in these language. It pulls them down using the API. Finally, he does language recognition on them and sorts them into these languages. They get statistically correlated.

What did he have to do previously (and has been doing for the last eight years)?

The base data doesn’t come from tweets but from texts on blogs, newspapers, web pagse etc.He's got a bunch of data for about 500 languages, so for 8 years he's been gathering all the data.

What will you find on indigenous tweets.com?

On the main page there is a table of all people tweeting in different minority languages.Once you click on a language, you see the number of people who tweet in that language, the percentage they tweet in the minority language in comparison to other (global) languages and you can see the number of followers they have.

To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question.
